One of Europe´s oldest auction houses, the Dorotheum, was privatized by its own management and a financial syndicate in 2001. Through the change in management and the strategic realignment, the focus was successfully brought back to the core businesses and the initial steps towards internationalization could be implemented. The investors sold their shareholder interest to the management in 2004. Established in 1707 as pawnshop, the Dorotheum with three business divisions - auctions, jewelry and pawnbroking - and a network of over 25 associated firms is the market leader in Austria and the largest auction house in Central Europe. The Dorotheum is represented internationally with branches in Germany, Belgium, Italy, The Czech Republic, Croatia, and Japan.
